O&3 joins the RSPO community – Joining hands for a sustainable future

We are excited to announce we have become a member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO)

At O&3, we are known for being committed to supplying natural ingredients throughout the world.

It is not only important to supply natural products that are kind to consumers; it’s equally as important these products are as kind to the environment, and the communities that are manufacturing these valuable ingredients.

Palm oil and palm derivatives, such as MCT, are some of the most widely used vegetable oils in the world, and they are a key ingredient in many cosmetic and food product formulations. However, the growth of the palm oil industry has resulted in significant environmental and social issues, including deforestation, habitat destruction, and exploitation of workers. We believe that it’s our responsibility as a business to do what we can to address these issues and promote sustainable practices.

The RSPO was established in 2004 to promote the growth and use of sustainable palm oil products through credible global standards and engagement of stakeholders. The organisation is made up of stakeholders from various sectors including oil palm growers, processors, traders, consumer goods manufacturers, retailers, banks, and non-governmental organisations. By becoming a member of the RSPO, we’re joining a community of people committed to sustainable palm oil production and sourcing.

As a supplier of natural oils, we recognise the importance of responsible sourcing and are committed to ensuring that our products meet the highest environmental and social standards. By becoming a member and distributor of RSPO certified products, we are demonstrating our commitment to sourcing sustainable ingredients and promoting environmental and social responsibility in the industries we work in.

We’re proud to be a member of the RSPO and to join other like-minded people in promoting sustainable palm oil ingredients. We believe that responsible sourcing is not just a choice, but a necessity for the future of the cosmetics and food industries.

With increasing consumer awareness and demand for sustainable products with the devastating effects of climate change becoming increasingly apparent, it’s more important than ever to promote responsible practices that protect the environment and benefit local communities.

We are excited about the progress we have made in promoting sustainable palm oil sourcing and we know there is still work to be done. By working together, and prioritising responsible sourcing, O&3 are making important contributions to a more sustainable future.

Why sourcing sustainable palm oil is so important:

Palm oil is the most widely used vegetable oil in the world, accounting for approximately 35% of global vegetable oil consumption.

According to the RSPO, there are over 19 million hectares of certified sustainable palm oil (CSPO) production area worldwide, representing approximately 20% of global palm oil production.

In 2020, the RSPO reported that there were over 5,000 RSPO-certified sustainable palm oil products available on the market, from over 3,000 different companies.

However, despite these efforts, there is still significant work to be done in promoting sustainable palm oil sourcing. According to the RSPO, only around 19% of global palm oil production is certified as sustainable, leaving a large portion of the industry with significant environmental and social issues.

In addition, there are ongoing concerns about deforestation and habitat destruction associated with palm oil production. According to the World Wildlife Fund, approximately 50,000km2 of forest are cleared each year for palm oil production, with significant impacts on biodiversity and carbon emissions.
