How To Disinfect Your Desk The Natural Way

With lots of us working from home during the current global pandemic, keeping your workspace clean and free from contamination might be a new task on your schedule of chores.

A clear desk means a clear mind!

Whether you’re lucky enough to have a home office, or are just making do on the dining room table, it’s important to keep the environment where you spend most of the day clean and fresh, from both a hygiene perspective, and to help keep yourself calm and positive.

If you’re all out of disinfectant from all the regular cleaning of your kitchen and bathroom, or you’re looking for a more natural and sustainable option, you can easily make your own disinfectant to keep the surfaces where you work clean. To make your own disinfectant with essential oils, mix the ingredients below in a large bowl before adding to a reusable spray bottle.

Natural Disinfectant Recipe:
250ml cup distilled water
250ml vodka
20 drops tea tree oil
15 drops lemon oil
15 drops peppermint oil

This DIY natural disinfectant works wonders thanks to the alcohol in the vodka, which disinfects and cuts through dirt, while the essential oils all have naturally antibacterial properties. Tea tree oil is well known for its antiseptic qualities, and is a common ingredient for cleaning products. Lemon oil and peppermint oil are also naturally antiseptic and have pleasant uplifting scents.

To disinfect your home working space using your natural cleaning spray, start by clearing away any old papers, used coffee mugs or other non-essential items, and dust off any crumbs that might be lurking in your keyboard. Take a clean microfiber cloth and lightly spray it with your disinfectant, before gently wiping down all the surfaces. Take particular care of any items you touch frequently, such as your computer mouse, headset or house phone as they may be hotspots for bacteria to grow. Check manufacturers guidelines before using any cleaning spray on devices with screens, and don’t use too much spray on any electrical items.

Once you’ve finished cleaning, why not light your favourite candle and put on some relaxing music to help transform your workspace into an even more enjoyable space to be?
