All About Organic Beauty

The word organic is used a lot in relation to beauty and wellness, but what does it really mean? Terms like ‘clean beauty,’ ‘natural beauty’, ‘organically sourced’ and ‘organic ingredients’ are used so often these days that it’s easy to forget their true meaning.

As a nation we’re all becoming more conscious of our health and wellbeing and never more so than in the wake of the pandemic.

There is a huge movement towards a more natural and holistic lifestyle and at the heart of this is the word ‘organic’. From food to beauty, it’s a buzz word that is here to stay.

And let’s face it, if you’re going to use something on your face or body, why wouldn’t you want it to be as clean and pure as possible? So why wait? Clear out your cosmetic bag and give your skincare regime a new lease of life.

With the popularity of organic beauty rising, in this blog we’re exploring the true meaning of organic beauty, why it’s so popular and sharing why we’ve got our clean credentials in the bag!

Below the surface: a true meaning of beauty

Organic means that products have been formulated with organically farmed ingredients.

However, it’s easy to be misled because there’s no legislation for organic cosmetics, meaning anyone can call their product organic, irrespective of its true organic content.

The Soil Association is the UK’s biggest organic certification body and certification means that products haven’t been tested on animals, are free from genetic modification and don’t contain any of the following:

Controversial chemicals

Parabens and phthalates

Synthetic dyes, colours and fragrances

Nano particles

But enough of what they don’t contain and on to the really good news. Truly organic products bring the following benefits to your beauty regime:

High levels of antioxidants, which slow cell damage from free radicals

Sustainably sourced, organic ingredients

A transparent manufacturing process

Biodegradable ingredients

Minimal packaging and maximum recycled content

Protection of wildlife and biodiversity

Making Headlines

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and we’ve got our eye on the statistics, which highlight just how much this industry is booming.

Organic isn’t just a trendy word to throw around carelessly. Organic beauty is serious business! Here in the UK, we LOVE beauty. In fact, as of 2020 the UK’s beauty industry was worth a jaw-dropping £27 BILLION and within that the natural and organic cosmetics market is worth £221 million pounds.

In fact, it seems our make-up bags are bulging because women in the UK spend on average £400 per year on beauty and own at least 24 beauty products at any one time.

With so many brands and products to choose from, is now the time to switch to organic? We think so because it brings with it so many positives. One of those is the impact on our environment.

A staggering 70%[2] of the plastic waste generated by the beauty industry isn’t recycled and ends up in landfill. That’s why we’ve committed to the British Soil Association to move to more sustainably sourced packaging.

Organic beauty is kinder to the planet and kinder to us. Naturally sourced ingredients such as Aloe Vera, Lavender and Tea Tree have wonderful healing properties that leave skin feeling smooth and nourished and far less prone to irritability.

And the even better news? Organic products are kinder to our purse strings. Why? Because the high-quality ingredients mean you don’t need to use as much, therefore saving you money in the long run.
